whispers softly also hiroko would think that trainers and pokeballs are Suuuuuuper unethical in a nuzlocke verse like damn y’all you fucking do this shit for fun and it’s still poentially life-or-death???
that being said hiroko’s opinion on sync stones would be really interesting i think? like i think she’d really like the idea and find it frankly a lot more ethical than pokeballs
not gonna lie though I really love the idea of syncing being an extremely similar phenomenon to (albeit a less powerful form of) linking and what warriors are capable of; rather than using powers inherent to a warrior the sync stones act as a sort of catalyst to accomplish the same general idea–forming a particular bond between human and pokémon that allows humans to participate more actively in battle (such as their support moves beyond just, you know, using a potion or w/e). sync moves function much like a z-move in-game but we can probably infer that the ability to do so comes from their connection to their trainers–and, naturally, we can probably assume that those sync moves become stronger as the bond between trainer and pokemon deepens.
HOWEVER sync stones are, naturally, considerably more limited in their capabilities. while one can assume they do allow for some level of (near) telepathic connection between human and pokemon, it’s certainly not as strong as a bonded warrior/link pair; trainers would probably feel this more subconsciously, as I can’t imagine it would be powerful enough to be really actively noticed except in very extreme circumstances. for a team that’s been together for a very long time and already understand one another extremely well, it’s possible they might not even notice this change. likewise, sync stones obviously don’t give trainers the same physical capabilities a warrior will have or adopt as a result of their link, so no getting super-strength or catlike agility. Sorry, guys. finally, I imagine that the biggest difference is that because sync stones serve as a catalyst rather than a Fixed connection, sync pairs would suffer no ill effects from being separated from their pokemon for a long period of time, be that because they’re in a ball or otherwise. (granted, there are probably very minor side effects just because of the energy used by utilizing a sync stone; the difference between using it and not would probably take some adjustment, maybe cause a minor headache or such during transition, but I can’t imagine it would be anywhere near the point that separating a linked pair would.)
and continuing this line of thought a sync stone wouldn’t be limited to Certain Pokemon the way warriors are, I don’t think; because the sync stone is a catalyst and fundamentally neutral/wouldn’t have an associated “type”, a trainer can probably sync with any pokémon (in theory) while, as I’ve established, warriors are limited to particular types whos auras are most compatible with their own (the exception being warriors with latent aura- or psychic-based empathetic abilities). naturally, sync pairs would probably still require a fairly strong bond to really utilize well regardless, but that probably goes without saying.
